The Fluoride Deception

In this interview, Christopher Bryson, an award-winning journalist and former producer at the BBC, discusses the findings of his new book The Fluoride Deception.

Bryson marshals an impressive amount of research to demonstrate fluoride's harmfulness, the ties between leading fluoride researchers, as well as the corporations who funded and benefited from their research, and what he says is the duplicity with which fluoridation was sold to the people.

The result is a compelling challenge to the reigning dental orthodoxy, which should provoke renewed scientific scrutiny and public debate.

The audio link below is a Democracy Matters radio broadcast recording of Q&A about the fluoridation of the water supply with Thomas Linzey and Mari Margil of CELDF, hosting Dr. Paul Connett of the Fluoride Action Network (American Environmental Health Studies Project) who has co-author The Case Against Fluoride: How Hazardous Waste Ended Up In Our Drinking Water and the Bad Science and Powerful Politics that Keep It There (starting at the 11:30 minute point).

Connett explains what fluoride is, where it comes from, how it was discovered and how corporate involvement got involved in the research. The Fluoride Deception, a book by Chris Bryson is brought up which asserts collusion between the U.S public health service and The Fluorine Lawyers Association which represented many companies who produced toxic fluoride waste pollution as a byproduct of their industry. These industries included many metal producers and the phosphate fertilizer producers. Fluoridating the water supply was a way to surreptitiously reclassify a toxic waste byproduct into a commercial product thereby solving the costly problem of its disposal, and in effect granting it constitutional commerce clause protection. Bryson also connects noted PR mastermind Edward Bernays to the fluoride scheme in the video above. Not only does fluoridating the water supply hardly benefit teeth but, according to Dr. Connett, it seriously affects the health of millions of people. He says moderate exposure to fluoridated water lowers IQ in children, damages the brain, damages bones, and damages the endocrine system among other things.

The Daniel Pennock Democracy School is a stimulating and illuminating course that teaches citizens and activists how to reframe exhausting and often discouraging single issue work (such as opposing toxic dumps, quarries, factory farms, etc.) in a way that we can confront corporate control on a powerful single front: people’s constitutional rights.

Democracy School explores the limits of conventional regulatory organizing and offers a new organizing model that helps citizens confront the usurpation by corporations of the rights of communities, people, and the earth. Lectures cover the history of people's movements and corporate power, and the dramatic recent organizing in Pennsylvania by communities confronting agribusiness, sewage sludge, and quarry corporations. Included with enrollment in the Democracy School is a 300 plus-page notebook of background reading material. Created by the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) and Richard Grossman, co-founder of the Program on Corporations, Law, and Democracy (POCLAD), Democracy Schools were launched with five weekend sessions at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in 2003.
